The aim of this project is to collect data for the study of silk markets, starting with Lyon, from the 19th to the early 20th century. In particular, we'll be looking at the actors on these markets: individuals, institutions (companies, professional organisations, etc.), the products traded on these markets, and in particular the characteristics taken into account by the actors to determine their value and hence their prices. The study also examines how silk is produced and processed to bring it to market, and the links between local production and consumer markets in the global, interconnected and evolving silk trade.
