Scope note

Text

This class comprises types used to classify Linguistic Objects according to their perceived nature, function, or role within a given context of use. A Linguistic Object Type expresses how a linguistic object is conceptually categorised, whether in linguistic description, text processing, documentation practice, or broader research contexts.

Instances of this class may be used to distinguish different kinds of linguistic objects, such as lexical units, grammatical groupings, textual segments, or discourse elements. Such classifications may arise from linguistic theory, annotation or computational practice, research conventions, or other context-dependent interpretative frameworks.

As a subclass of crm:E55 Type, a Linguistic Object Type functions as a controlled classificatory concept and may be used to type or semantically qualify instances of Linguistic Objects.
