Scope note

Text

This property associates any instance of crm:E1 CRM Entity with a literal string representing its primary human-readable label. The value of this property is intended to be the default label used for display purposes in user interfaces, search results, and listings, and SHOULD be the first label presented by any consuming application.

This property is conceptually equivalent to skos:prefLabel, but is defined as a shortcut property to simplify access to the preferred appellation without traversing the full CIDOC CRM naming pattern.

Semantically, this property is a shortcut for the following path: crm:E1 CRM Entity → sdh:P11i has appellation for language → sdh:C11 Appellation in a Language → sdh:P13 refers to name → crm:E41 Appellation → crm:P190 has symbolic content → crm:E62 String

This property does not replace the explicit modelling of appellations using sdh:C11 Appellation in a Language and crm:E41 Appellation, but provides a simplified access point for applications.

The property is intended purely for presentation and identification, not for analytical or classificatory reasoning. Full appellation modelling should be preserved when detailed linguistic, historical, or contextual analysis is required.
