Artefacts – Characteristics
This profile contains classes for conceptualising the characteristics of objects uncovered during an archaeological excavation and subsequent conservation treatment.
An artefact can be physical object purposely created by human activity (E22 Man-Made Object), like a flint knife or a wooden boat, or a feature not separable from the carrier, like the the handle of a jar or an incision in a wooden object (E25 Man-Made Feature). Larger artefacts that are generally not intended to be moved, such as walls or entire buildings, are treated in the corresponding profile Structures.
